I’m just back from 3 days shooting at St Andrews the home of golf, my brief this trip was to cover the activity behind the scenes of the Green keeping team on the Old Course.
What made it even more interesting was that it was the Dunhill Cup weekend!
For the Dunhill the team briefing starts at 6am each morning rain or shine, each member of the team has a specific task to perform and watching it is like seeing a carefully planed military operation in progress.
When I arrived in St Andrews on the Friday evening it was already raining, this persisted for the next 18 hours so when we arrived at the home end to start shooting there was a lot of surface water and I mean a lot!
But the team got on with their jobs and by 10am the course was ready to play infact the hour delay was because Kingsbarns wasn’t quite ready.
By mid afternoon you wouldn’t have known that it had been raining. Lot’s of credit and hats off to the Old Course and the old Course team, all in a days work!
